Before beginning to grade bandeau, always see how many parts the garment consists of. Inasmuch as this diagram, illustrated above, shows that this bandeau consists of front and back with necessary dart to produce a bust effect it requires a great deal of attention in grading.
Therefore, start grading as follows: Begin to grade at center back or Section l. Copy with dotted line at center back from 1 to 2 and shift pattern in from 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 with ½ inch. We shift ½ inch because the difference between the size 36 and 38 is 2 inches and as we grade half of that amount which is 1 inch, we divide equal parts of this 1 inch making ½ inch for front and ½ inch for back. Now copy pattern from 3 to 5, 4 to 6 and 5 to 6.
Now begin to grade front part or section 2 . Copy with dotted line from 7 to 8 and shift pattern in from 7 to 9 and 9 to 10, ¼ inch, and copy the balance of the pattern from 9 to 14, 10 to 20 up to 19 and down to 18 to 16. Then add, as illustrated with dotted line, from 14 to 15 and 16 to 17, ¼ inch, and copy pattern from 17 to 15 and from 15 lose with dotted line to 14 which is the top of front, as shown on diagram. Note that the dart always remains in the same place and in the same space.
In order to grade the various sizes, follow the information given in first lesson on grading.
