In order to grade a foundation garment which consists of 2 parts, there is 1 inch to be graded from size to size. Therefore, begin at the center back or section 1 as follows: Copy with dotted line from 1 to 2 and shift pattern in from 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 with ½ inch and copy the balance of the pattern from 3 to 5, 5 to 6 and 6 to 4, as shown on diagram. This will bring a size 38 back for foundation garment.
To grade the front part of the foundation garment ,copy the side seam with dotted line from 7 to 8 and shift pattern in with ¼ inch from 7 to 9 and 8 to 10. Then copy the balance of the pattern from 9 to 15 and 11 and from 10 to 13. Add from 11 to 12, ¼ inch, and from 13 to 14, also ¼ inch, and connect 12 to 14, as shown with dotted lines. Connect 12 to 15 with dotted lines as shown on top of front. This will complete the grading of the foundation garment from size 36 to 38.
If 2 sizes are graded, grade in the same manner by grading twice the amount all over; or if grading 3 or 4 sizes from the same pattern all that is necessary to remember is the difference in measurements. When grading patterns to a smaller size, deduct at the same places the same amounts as increased to 1 larger size.
