Before beginning to grade the Corselette see how many parts the pattern consists of. Note that this particular corselette consists of 4 parts; 2 back and 2 front parts. We shall grade from size 36 to 38 and, therefore, require from these sizes an increase of 2 inches, for which reason we grade half of that amount or 1 inch as this pattern represents half of the garment.
Now begin to grade. Add 1/8 inch at the center back, as illustrated by dotted line from 1 down to 2. For a simple method of grading, copy the pattern from 1 to 2 and then shift pattern in 1/8 inch. Now copy remainder of pattern from 1 to 3, 3 to 4 and 4 to 2, as shown on diagram at section 1.
To grade section 2, copy pattern from 5 down to 6, as illustrated by dotted lines, and shift pattern in from 5 to 8 and 6 to 7, 3/8 inch, and copy balance of section 2 from 8 to 9, 9 to 10 and 10 to 7, as shown on diagram.
Now grade section 3. Copy pattern, as illustrated by dotted line from 11 down to 12. Shift pattern in from 11 to 13 and 12 to 14 with ¼ inch and copy the pattern from 13 to 15. Add from 15 to 16, 1/8 inch, and from 17 to 18, 1/8 inch, and copy as illustrated on diagram with dotted line from 16 to 18 and from 18 to 17 to 14 and 12.
Now grade section 4 which is the edge part of the front. Copy pattern at 19 and 20 and shfft pattern with 1/8 inch, as illustrated by dotted line, and copy the balance of the pattern from 19 to 21 down to 22 and from 22 to 20, as shown on diagram. This will complete the grading for the corselette from size 36 to size 38.
To grade to larger sizes, increase the amount per size as explained in the previous lessons. If, for instance, 2 sizes are desired, grade twice as much on all parts as explained before.
When section 3 of the corselette is made of 2 pieces because part is made of elastic material, the grading is done in the same manner as explained for the simple reason that there is no grading necessary at the part where the section is divided in 2, as illustrated from A to B.
